Co Offaly,

Birr Castle Gardens & Science Centre

The magnificent Birr Castle is situated on a 1,200 acre walled estate near the centre of heritage town of Birr. It is the family home of Lord and Lady Rosse and while the Castle is private the grounds and the magnificently manicured gardens of the demesne are publically accessible. It also houses the world famous Birr telescope which was built in 1840 and recently restored to its former glory.

The Gardens at Birr are arguably the greatest gardens in the Republic of Ireland and well known internationally whilst the Treehouse Adventure Area features Ireland’s largest treehouse along with sand pits and much more.

A unique estate in the centre of Birr town with award winning Gardens and a rich history of science and astronomy. Birr Castle Gardens & Science Centre provides a wonderful day out for children and adults alike, letting their imagination run wild and connecting with one’s inner ‘astronomer’ and exerting any excess energy at the Tree House Adventure Area!
